There’s nothing worse than finally nailing the perfect expression – only to have a gust of wind blow hair across someone’s face.

- Choose locations with natural shelter (buildings, walls, or trees) to block the wind.
- Time the shoot for calmer parts of the day when possible.
- Guide clients on hairstyle and wardrobe choices that work best outdoors.
- Keep a comb and hair spray handy for quick touch-ups.
Instead of battling the wind, sometimes I even use it creatively for a natural, dynamic look.
Overhead Sun = Harsh Shadows
The midday sun is every outdoor photographer’s challenge – it casts unflattering shadows and makes clients squint.
