A successful headshot photoshoot doesn’t just happen the moment the camera clicks. The truth is, great photography starts well before the session itself – with preparation. My role as a photographer isn’t only to capture you at your best, but also to make sure you feel confident, relaxed, and ready when the big day arrives.
Helping Clients Feel Ready
I know that many people feel a little nervous about having their headshot or branding photos taken. That’s completely normal! That’s why I’ve developed a process to ensure every client feels prepared and supported:
1. A Styling & Wardrobe Guide
As soon as a session is booked, I send a guide on what to wear. It covers:
- Colours that photograph well.
- Necklines, fits, and patterns that flatter on camera.
- How to coordinate accessories without distracting from your face.
- Wardrobe options for different types of shoots (corporate, creative, casual).
This means you don’t have to guess what will look good – you’ll arrive confident that your outfit is camera-ready.
2. A Pre-Shoot Call
Before every session, I schedule a quick phone call to talk through the vision. This is where we:
- Discuss your goals (LinkedIn update? Website branding? Team portraits?).
- Align on the look and feel you want (professional, approachable, creative, bold).
- Talk through locations, lighting, and shot lists.
By the time we meet in person, we’re on the same page, and you know exactly what to expect.
Why Preparation Matters
When clients arrive prepared:
- The session feels relaxed instead of rushed.
- You can focus on being yourself, rather than worrying about your outfit.
- We get the most out of our time together – capturing images that are polished, professional, and authentic.
And when I arrive prepared – carrying backup gear, scouting lighting, and planning for every eventuality – you can trust that nothing will get in the way of creating the results you’re after.
A Collaboration, Not Just a Photoshoot
The preparation process is all about collaboration. My goal is not just to take a flattering photo, but to create an image that truly represents you. By combining my professional guidance with your personality and goals, we’ll make sure your headshots or branding portraits feel natural, confident, and ready to make the right impression.
